Volunteering at the St. Marys Senior Center

I volunteer at the St. Marys Senior Center teaching art. It is one of the most rewarding parts of my week.

The center, at 2603 Osborne Road (Suite CC), is a lively gathering place for local seniors—fellowship, classes, meals, and creative work. Painting, watercolor, and acrylics are already part of their arts program, and I am glad to add my time as a teaching artist.

We work side by side: mixing color, trying new marks, finishing a small study, or simply talking through a picture. Some students are picking up a brush for the first time in years. Others already know their way around a palette and want another pair of eyes. Either way, the room fills with concentration, laughter, and that quiet satisfaction that comes when something on the page finally looks like what you meant.

Teaching here keeps me honest as a painter. It also lets me give back to the same coastal Georgia community that feeds my own work.
